What Is MacMix?

MacMix is a pre-measured 12.5kg bag of high-quality 1–5mm aggregate, designed specifically to enhance the VubaMac resin bound surfacing system. It’s added to the standard VubaMac mix, increasing the total aggregate weight from 100kg to 112.5kg and the binder from 4kg to 4.5kg.

By extending the coverage of each kit, MacMix reduces the number of mixes needed, speeding up installation times while also cutting material and labour costs.

How the New VubaMac System Works Across Applications

The upgraded VubaMac system with MacMix has been carefully reengineered to offer greater flexibility and performance across a variety of surfacing needs. 

Heavy Vehicle Use

For areas exposed to heavy vehicle traffic, the new system calls for a 35mm VubaMac layer, supported by two layers of reinforcing mesh- one above and one below. This build-up ensures long-term durability and strength under load.

Each mix now covers approximately 2.15m², with two material options:

• Use 4 bags of VubaMac with 1 bag of MacMix (12.5kg)
  
  

• Or, opt to reuse your own aggregate waste- either ½ bag of 2–5mm or a 50/50 blend of 2–5mm and 1–3mm totalling 12.5kg
  
  

Vehicle Use

For standard vehicle traffic, the system utilises a slightly thinner 30mm VubaMac layer, again reinforced with mesh layers above and below.

This setup achieves a coverage of around 2.6m² per full mix. Material options remain the same as for heavy vehicle use listed above.

Patios & Paths

In pedestrian areas like patios and paths, the system is simplified for efficiency. A 15mm VubaMac layer is used, supported by a single layer of mesh beneath.

This configuration provides up to 5m² of coverage per mix, and contractors have several flexible options:

• 4 x VubaMac + 1 x MacMix (12.5kg)
  
  

• 2 x VubaMac + 2 x 2–5mm (25kg) OR a mix of 1 x 2–5mm (25kg) and 1 x 1–3mm (25kg), plus an additional ½ bag of 1–3mm (12.5kg)
  (Note: the second option has slightly reduced coverage)
  
  

Occasional Foot Traffic

For light-use spaces such as garden paths or decorative areas with minimal foot traffic, the system can be simplified even further. In these cases, contractors can use 25mm of VubaSurface only, with no VubaMac required.

A single mesh layer beneath is sufficient for reinforcement, and this setup offers around 2.5m² of coverage per mix.
